My goal is to expose thousands of students on how to design and plant a school butterfly garden as a long lasting class project. With nectar plants and host plants your school garden can become an outside lab-classroom and furnish the butterflies with what they need most.

I'm scheduling seminars for spring 2010 so please let me know as early as possible a date for a session with your school. You may be certain I will come well-prepared to work closely with you to prepare a fun, educational experience for your children. When our habitat is complete we will have a photo session and I will put photos of your school, children and butterfly habitat in our photo gallery.  (See: Current Photos)

Looking forward to seeing you this spring!

SURVIVAL
At "Butterflies Thru Children's Eyes" my research has proven over and over again, that planting the host plants for butterfly caterpillars is the "most" effective way we can assist butterflies.

DID YOU KNOW...
  • Butterflies don’t have mouths!
  • Butterflies taste with their feet!
  • Caterpillars grow to 27,000 times the size they were when they first emerge from their eggs!
The butterfly’s survival depends on each of us. The biggest problem facing all butterflies is the destruction of habitat.

How can we bring the butterfly back to our communities?  Read on...
BUTTERFLY GUIDE
MONARCH HABITAT & MIGRATION
From the alpine summits to cities; when breeding, habitats with milkweeds, meadows and water sources.

The Monarch is the only butterfly than annually migrates both north and south as birds do on a regular basis.  Likewise, they too never make the journey alone.

Monarchs spend their winters in coastal Monterey, Californias abundant eucalyptus groves, and the fir forests in Mexican mountain ranges.

Note: Mexico is doing due diligence  to protect the millions of Monarchs that visit this country each year.  You may donate to the preservation of these lovely creatures by going to this site: www.monarchwatch.org
My guide-book, "Butterflies Thru Children's Eyes" lists butterflies found by region in the U.S. as well as the host plants for this purpose.

This is a wonderful educational reference guide for any age!  It details how to locate butterflies, how to raise them, and how to locate eggs.  Delightful fun for everyone, and any educator/parent will find adding this edition to their resource library is certain to create a new awareness of the joys of nature, and be an educational  child pleaser because it's just plain fun to do!!

BUTTERFLY GARDENS ~ TAG & RELEASE
Particularily enjoyable for one and all is the "tag and release" portion of my program for Monarch butterflies.  It's fun to later learn whether one of the children's tagged Monarch's was recovered, and the distance traveled.  Some of the Monarchs journey as far away as 2000 miles!
A special thank you to Linda Rogers with Timshell Farm and Butterfly Boutique for supplying me with healthy and beautiful Monarch Butterflies for my educational programs. Please check out her wonderful web site www.timshellfarm.com
